Apparently those get about double the performance on integer math (coming in closer to 26,900 MIPS per core). ( Edit: OK, so apparently BOINC's measurements are garbage.)Įdited to add: Some of the Orange Pi's are Orange Pi Zero Plus's (which I bought from u/HOOBS_Homebridge a couple years back), which use Allwinner H5's instead of H2+'s. Granted it's got more cores.but honestly, the Orange Pi Zero's are only about $10 a piece - for $40, I can out-perform the $3,000+ Macbook. Meanwhile, my Macbook Pro (with its Intel i9) only gets 11,649 integer MIPS per core. The math I'm doing is pretty heavily integer-based - and according to BOINC, those Allwinner H2+'s score 13,990 integer MIPS per core. Each core gets to search through a portion of the possible solutions - so more cores means more possible solutions per second that the cluster chan check! Each one has a 16GB microSD card for storage - but they all report their results back to another machine (that has dual 2TB drives in a RAID-1 configuration).Īnd honestly? Yeah, I'd say the performance is worth it. I wrote a custom BOINC project to find a solution to an unsolved problem in mathematics. They're all running Armbian (a scaled back Ubuntu-based distro). r/HomeNetworking - Simpler networking advice. r/pfsense - for all things pfsense ('nix firewall) Might be able to find things useful for a lab. r/hardwareswap - Used hardware, swap hardware. r/buildapcsales - For sales on building a PC r/linux - All flavors of Linux discussion & news - not for the faint of heart!
